If you are registering for the Conference now, and wish to book a place at one of the workshops to be held on Sunday 24 August, details are as follows:

Workshop on Network Music Performance (NMP)

This workshop will offer a "nuts and bolts" session on how to run a successful network music performance (NMP). A set of essential tools allowing the transmission of real-time high quality multi-modal networked interactions will be showcased. This will include audio streaming, video streaming and message communication tools. Participants will be shown how to implement and use such tools and will have the opportunity to run a real network session with a second live connected site. The workshop will also explore the artistic possibilities brought by NMPs and will look into factors such as latency and the combination of acoustic spaces which are important to consider when designing NMPs. The workshop is partially organised by the CO-ME-DI-A A EU Culture 2007.

Workshop on Music, Sensors, and Emotion (MuSE)

Breaking News: One participant (chosen randomly) will receive a free Infusion Systems’ MicroDig Midi Data Acquisition System (value: $249)

This workshop will explore the combined use of physiological sensors (brain waves, heart rhythms, muscle tension, and others) and kinematic sensors in music composition, performance, and the quantitative analysis of gesture and emotion. You will create your own biosignal recordings, create a group “biomusic” piece, as well as receive a set of physiological signal analysis patches for Max and Eyesweb. The measurement of audience response using sensored chairs will be shown as a possibility for use in interactive performances. A concert will follow in the Sonic Lab demonstrating the use of physiological and kinematic sensors for exploring motion and emotion in traditional music performance.
